Southern England Law Centre provides specialist free or low-cost legal advice and representation for a wide range of housing problems. We cover Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Hampshire and the surrounding areas.

  • Homelessness—including when your home is unreasonable to continue to occupy
  • Unlawful eviction
  • Disrepair affecting your health
  • Housing discrimination
  • Defences in anti-social behaviour injunctions and enforcement applications

We cannot assist with boundary disputes or advise landlords.​

Court Duty Scheme

We hold Legal Aid Agency contracts for the Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service (HLPAS) Court Duty scheme in the following areas:

  • Aldershot
  • Basingstoke
  • Bury St Edmonds
  • Gloucester
  • Hereford
  • The Isle of Wight
  • Portsmouth
  • Salisbury
  • Southampton
  • Swindon
  • Winchester
  • Worcester

We can advise tenants and mortgagors at court who have a hearing on the possession list on the day we are on court duty. We provide advice before the hearing and representation in the hearing. We strongly advise you to contact us as soon as you receive a notice of your hearing, so that we may endeavour to meet with you before your hearing. If you require advice from the duty solicitor, please bring all relevant documents, including the court paperwork, and arrive at court at least 30 minutes before your hearing.

If you are at risk of losing your home, please contact us as soon as possible. Even if we can’t help, we can suggest others who might be able to.
