Richard Hazell

Trustee

Richard began his Law Centre journey in 1973 as a student volunteer at North Kensington Law Centre. He worked as a volunteer at various London Law Centres and was involved in the squatting movement. He qualified as a solicitor in December 1978.

Richard started at Wiltshire Law Centre in September 1981 as the senior solicitor, although the staff worked for the next 40 years as a collective. He has specialized in housing law and legal structures for voluntary sector organisations. He arranged a job exchange with Gael Surgenor of Wellington South Community Law Centre, New Zealand, from January to June 1989. It was a life changing experience.

Richard retired in March 2023 and is involved in housing issues in the Newbury area. He remains – for misguided reasons – a season ticket holder of Swindon Town FC, having been taken by his father in 1967.
